Are you working a full-time job and looking for ways you can supplement your income? Want to get started with a side hustle to bring in additional revenue for your family or possibly fun money for yourself? I’ve got you covered! I am the queen at full-time corporate career gal with a side hustle – or two – and I am going to be sharing my top 5 tips on managing a full-time career and a side hustle at the same time.
I have never been one to not have a side hustle for as long as I can remember. I have, and currently still do, the multi-level marketing side business and I successfully run my own marketing agency. There are most definitely steps I take to be successful in my side businesses without jeopardizing my full-time career. Let’s dive right in!
- Time management.
Let me explain each in further detail.
Time management. This is listed first for a reason. You will get overwhelmed and burnt out very quickly if you do not time manage your businesses. Trust me. Write down everything you need to do for your side business daily, weekly and monthly, and allocate how much time each takes to complete. Need to mail out thank you cards at the end of every month and it takes roughly 2 hours? Write it down. This is the start of how you can allocate your time at the end of each day/week/month around your full-time job. If you work 40 hours a week and your side hustle adds up to 60 hours a week – you need to reevaluate and reallocate.
Plan. Are you planning your week? Now that you have time allocated to each task that needs to be completed, are you planning ahead of time? This sounds so simple, but so many fail to plan. And you know what they say – if you fail to plan, you can plan to fail. No one wants to fail in their side business. This is the quickest way to quitting because you didn’t plan out exactly what was needed of you.
Schedule. Stick to a schedule. Whether you are a paper planner or a phone planner – schedule everything. I cannot stress this enough! Plan morning until night, including workouts, cook time, bed, bath time, full-time hours, and nightly tasks for your side hustle. Each day may look different with varying tasks, but it all needs to be written down. I plan my weeks on Sunday’s, and this includes scheduling social media posts for the entire week!
Batch. Batch your content and batch your days. If you don’t know what this means, I’ll explain. If you are a business owner that posts videos you have to take, record all of your content one day a week for the week (or month even!). If you need to write thank you cards to every customer that purchases, choose a day bi-weekly and write all your thank you cards for the past two weeks’ worth of orders. Batching allows you to focus on one task at a time without bouncing around and getting nothing done.
Self-care. This may be #5 on the list, but it is one of the most important things you can do. Time for yourself – whether that be time with your family, date night, bubble baths, or massages, carve out time on your schedule EVERY WEEK for you. Do something YOU love. Take care of yourself, and the business will come.
I hope these top 5 tips were helpful. I truly follow these in my everyday life to stay sane. I have so many friends that tell me “I don’t know how you do all that you do,” and this is how!
